Why study the wisdom of Legalism?

Among the Hundred Schools of Thought, several have focused on the study of leadership wisdom, among which the wisdom of Legalism has unique advantages and cannot be replaced.

The ancients said that the leadership wisdom taught by the family is the study of emperors, and the content is too broad and profound, which cannot be learned and applied by ordinary people in a short period of time.

The content of Confucian leadership wisdom tends to shape the personality charm and moral cultivation of leaders, as well as the methods for leaders to handle problems in a normal state.

Guiguzi's strategist also talked about leadership wisdom, mainly from the perspective of communication and diplomacy.

The leadership wisdom of Legalism is not as profound and extensive as Taoism, but rather simpler, clearer, and more practical, easy to learn and apply. Unlike Confucianism, which preaches many moral principles, Legalism is more dominant and studies many strategies and wisdom. It also discusses how leaders should solve problems in some abnormal situations, and talks about more specific methods and strategies compared to Confucianism. For Zonghengjia, Legalist Wisdom has studied many leaders' techniques beyond communication, and its content is far more complete and in-depth than Zonghengjia's.
In ancient China, many emperors, generals, and ministers revered and applied Legalism, and they also achieved great success. For example, during the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, it was Qin Xiaogong who employed Shang Yang and allowed him to carry out 18 years of reforms in the state of Qin, which enabled the country to grow from weak to strong and stand among the feudal lords at that time. In the end, he destroyed the six states and unified the world.
Qin Shi Huang was also a supporter of Legalism, and Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty also highly valued the representative figure of Legalism at that time, Zhang Tang, and used the wisdom of Legalism to govern the country. From this, we can know that studying the wisdom of Legalism seriously and systematically has direct benefits for improving the personal cultivation of leaders and enhancing their leadership skills.
Moreover, as Legalism is a branch of Taoism, understanding and learning the wisdom of Legalism will lay a solid foundation for future studies of the profound Taoist wisdom and a deeper understanding of traditional cultural knowledge.
