One of the most common misunderstandings about "Dream of the Red Chamber" is why people think Baoyu is so inconstant. He likes this and that, but we should remember that Baoyu would never say something like "My heart is broken into pieces" to others, as he has a very clear emotional hierarchy.

Fourthly, Jin Chuan'er opened her eyes, pushed Baoyu away, and laughed, saying, 'What are you in such a hurry for! 'If a golden hairpin falls into a well, only you will have it.'.
5. This sentence is a two-part allegorical saying. If a woman's golden hairpin falls into a well, it can be found sooner or later. As the saying goes, the golden hairpin will eventually be found, but the woman will ultimately commit suicide by jumping into the well.
