Plato's view of justice

Knowing All the World's Classics (12)

1、 Plato firmly opposed democracy from the standpoint of the aristocracy, opposed ordinary free citizens participating in politics, and strongly advocated for the upper echelons of the slave owning aristocracy to control the state apparatus.

2、 Plato designed a political system in the Republic that unifies truth, goodness, and beauty. He believes that the state is the amplification of individuals, and individuals are the reduction of the state. In his view, there are three types of human souls: reason, will, and sexual desire; Corresponding to it are three moral values: wisdom, courage, and moderation. If these three parts are coordinated and consistent, it reflects the fourth morality of human beings: justice.

3、 The same applies to a country, where the rulers, guardians, and masses each have their own functions and virtues. If these three classes maintain their own positions and perform their respective duties, the country will achieve harmony and justice, and society will be in the best state, which is the ultimate good.

4、 Plato emphasized the important role of education in the Republic, stating that young people should receive good quality education, including music, sports, and other aspects.

5、 Ideas are the prototypes of concrete things, while concrete things are the shadows or replicas of ideas; Ideas are the most real and eternal existence, while concrete things are only divided into ideas, which are fickle and unreal.
